Courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] marsala1, I present to you: The Unfolding Game. The concept is very simple: rearrange the dots so that none of the lines connecting them intersect. The first puzzle is dead easy and takes only one move to solve, but from there, it becomes exponentially more complicated. It's horribly addictive.

Level 5 took me just over 17 minutes to solve, but that level taught me something about the algorithms required to solve the puzzles more efficiently, so I completed Level 6 in just over 10. I'm sure all the gameplayers and puzzle solvers on my friendslist ([livejournal.com profile] piezocuttlefish, [livejournal.com profile] theotherjay, [livejournal.com profile] li_kao, [livejournal.com profile] redsouffle and [livejournal.com profile] seasong1 come to mind) would just kill my score and time in this game.

I know what I'm going to be doing during lunch break. *headdesk*

Like Gridlock wasn't already enough crack for me?!

I finished Level 9 and had racked up well over 47,000 points, but halfway through Level 10, my house hand started cramping. So I called it a day. I wonder how many levels there are, and how far people got who are actually GOOD at this sort of thing (I'd be the first to admit I'm nothing more than a hack when it comes to these games).

Gridlock is pretty goddamn crackish, too. Sheeit.

That'd be my mouse hand, not my house hand. I keep my house hand in a cedarwood box and take it out only for special occasions.

Level 24 is currently twisting my melon, but I'll put it in its place soon enough.

99582 after finishing level 10.

I typically get puzzle games slower than other people, but that one seemed like an iterative process. Grab a dot, move it so that it's in the middle of the dots it borders. Eventually the board becomes manageable.

I'd played Gridlock a while before. That one was difficult to finish.

I liked Prachka.

Was there a Level 11 after Level 10? And yeah, once you've figured out the trick, the game is pretty manageable. However, by Level 10, there were so many dots and lines on the screen that I had a hard time concentrating.

Prachka is good, too. Damn.

There was a level eleven. It was just more of the same.

I finished level 1 in less than one second. By level 4 I gave up and had to go to work.

I was interrupted so I had to start all over again with my levels, and the second time around I found that levels 1 and 2 took seconds to solve, whereas levels 3 to 8 took about 5 each. 9 was a real bitchwhore to break (took me over 20 minutes), and I had to give up on 10 because my hand hurt.

In short: If you had the time and opportunity to concentrate on this, I'm sure you could easily beat my times, because you're soooo much better than I am at this sort of thing.

And by "5", I meant 5 minutes, not seconds.

Christ, is it time for me to go home yet?

Why, yes, yes it is. YES.

I got the first nine levels in 10min with some 48k points. I'm pretty sure the points always more or less double for finishing each level, not sure what makes the differences. Though yeah, after 10min on a trackpad my hand started complaining. Maybe I should've used the mouse for this eh?

I remember when I first found that game.. and spent a good 2 hours on it. I never quite figured out a pattern to it though.

For puzzle fun I usually stick to good old Tetris. That or Lumines. Mmm shiny...

I discovered the original version almost a year ago. I figured out I can do almost any level past 10 or so the same way, limited only by the amount of time it takes me to actually move all the dots. I did it up to level 30 or so and got bored. I have no idea what my score was.

P.S. I AM HARDCORE.

damn low-resolution small-screened library computers, i can't even see the whole puzzle.

which i guess is a good thing, because this is so my cup of crack tea.

Oh, yes. And the Prachka game [livejournal.com profile] piezocuttlefish linked to is similarly crackish.

I'm afraid my specialty tends to be silly videos, interesting linkage (especially linkage related to the sciences) and some wibbliness rather than on-line toys, so you might find most of my protected entries somewhat disappointing :) . But I've added you back. Have fun digging through the archives--I don't know 'bout you, but a large part of the fun of making a new LJ friend for me is looking through old entries.

ah, archive reading...hm, my archives are perhaps dauntingly lengthy as well as full of content, so i'll know that if you read them all---particularly in a short amount of time---that you have waaaaay too much time on your hands.
