PZ Myers has perfectly expressed some thoughts that have been swimming in my head for years regarding the faith/science divide. People tiptoe around religious tenets as if it were absolutely sacrosanct, even when they prove to be just plain factually wrong. Allowing religious belief to trump science, the way many people have over and over again when trying to debate Intelligent Design vs. evolutionary theory, is giving mythological beliefs the same weight as rational thinking, empirical proof and replicable results. Giving the thumper who claims the Bible is an accurate document of creation a free pass simply because it's his religious belief and we're good little liberals who must be tolerant of all viewpoints strikes me as implicitly endorsing the thumper's (completely wrong and wrong-headed) views.

I want to talk some more about the discourse on atheism and how atheists are somehow viewed as freaks of nature when their position is reasonable and logical, but my head hurts. Maybe more later, maybe not.

I don't understand why science and religion need to be in conflict.

Assume there is a god. If there WAS a god, he'd need to create rules that even HE would need to follow, or the universe would crumble apart. At least that makes sense for me. So he gives man free will. how can he do that if he's supposed to know the future and the outcome? Chaos theory. God does play dice because the dice average what he wants them to.

Adam and Eve... cloaning?

Noah's ark... genetic dna stored in a computer bank and then cloned when everyone arrived?

I just think that god AND science could exist together. Maybe the people writing and translating really didn't know how else to describe things?

When it all comes down to it, I wonder... where the fuck did everything come from? The first atom...

Maybe it's always been here and always will be. After all... that's the theory with god too.

I'm not an athiest... I'm agnostic. I really don't know the answers so i can't judge one way or another. I think if there IS a god... that he/she sure let someone fuck up the bible pretty badly!

Who knows... maybe god is just like this dude in another dimension sitting back and eating popcorn while watching the show. Maybe our souls will pop in and say "yo dude... what's up?" when we die.

Maybe I should brave the pollen and get the fuck out of here.

In Kentucky, they're about to open a Creationists History Museum. It has a diorama of Noah's Ark with two little goats walking up towards the ark, followed by two little sheep, followed by two little tyranosaurus rexes. The creator of the museum says that humans of the time kept dinosaurs as pets.
