I'm a regular Mary motherfucking Sunshine today. The Supreme Court has upheld the law banning intact dilation and evacuation (otherwise known as partial-birth abortion, a term I hate hate hate--almost as much as I hate the term "pro-life").
What can we do? Not too much, unfortunately. But the fight isn't over yet. Here are people to whom you can shuffle some cash, should you feel inclined:
Planned Parenthood
NARAL Pro-Choice
Feel free to write your Senators and House Representatives, too, and let them have a piece of your mind. There's a certain "closing the barn door after the horses have bolted" air to it, but it can't hurt.
And then there's voting. I can't vote--yet--so y'all will have to do it for me. Let's see a slightly less fucked administration come into power in 2008, eh? (Oh, hey, that's setting the bar high! "Less fucked than the Bush administration, please!" HahahahaCRY.)
Sarah and I were talking today about what would make us throw our hands and give up on America. Given recent events, our moods are, shall we say, pretty goddamn dire. We both agreed that a Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage would do it it, for sure, but swear to God, if they repeal Roe v. Wade in my lifetime, I'm going to see if Canada wants a tiny, foul-mouthed Chinese Malaysian with a law degree.

YEAH, all those 16-year-old girls who got pregnant because nobody ever told them what genitals were for, those stupid kids sure do deserve to lose their rights, yep. they should have been out there educating the public if they were too young to vote. especially the ones who got raped by their daddies, they had plenty to say and if they don't know how to call up their congresspeople and say it, well, heh, you know, dumb bitches probably didn't even know enough to say no the first time.
(sarcasm off)
wrong issue, dude! you're not supposed to say "they deserved it" in response to laws whose especial heinousness lies in their lack of victim protection clauses! especially not when the victims can't vote, or are enough in the minority that their votes wouldn't count for much.
nope, this is _our_ failure, let's be sad.
there! I have flamed you. it was gratuitous! unfortunately, you are not a senator, or I'd feel like a fine citizen right now.
girrrrrrrr.

Date: 2007-04-19 04:35 pm (UTC)What i said above is me tossing hands up and going "WTF EVERY YOU IDIOTS".
You don't need to shoot your view at me. I agree with it. All of it. I do become frustrated because a lot of the people who DO vote vote against things that are beneficial to them because THEY WATCH THE PRETTY MOVING PICTURES.
I'm not just referring to abortion, but the whole freaking mindset of hte american people. They have this awesome power to change the world, and the minimum they could do is vote.
I used to be very active before i became burned out because people would shoot soundbites back at me and wouldn't listen to the deeper message... or they listened, but their minds were already made up... by the pretty pictures. One issue overruled 70.
I don't disagree with you. You're mistaken if you think that's the case.
I'm still semi-hopeful that MAYBE just MAYBE people/kids will start seeing what's going on and MAYBE they'll realize it's important and take action.
What's wrong with hugging a fucking tree anyway? Trees need love too.
