I need a haircut. The problem is, I have no idea where to go. Anyone have any suggestions? The last haircut I got, which was back in March or so, was fabulous--it was the same woman who cuts [livejournal.com profile] theotherjay's hair, but she has alas moved to a shop in Aloha, and I'm not willing to make that trek. If nobody has any recommendations by the weekend, I think I'll just head to Bishop's Barbershop on Hawthorne and see if Portland's premier ROCK AND ROLL BARBERSHOP will do wonders for my hair.

I was also staring at the mirror this morning and pondering doing some deeply, deeply drastic to my hair. I've had the same basic haircut for ages. It's flattering and has served me well, but I'm getting really tired of it. I'm open to suggestions from the peanut gallery.

To be honest, I feel a really strong urge to get a buzz-cut, but I suspect this is a passing fancy I will do well to ignore, because if nothing else, I don't think my skull is well-shaped enough to pull off that sort of thing. But it'd certainly be different. And it'd also be hilarious to have a super-butch haircut while running around in my girly skirts and shoes.

Yeah, like I said, a passing fancy I'd do best to ignore.

I've been putting off getting a badly-needed haircut for at least two weeks, because I haven't had time to drive out to Aloha. I feel like going to anyone but Amanda would be cheating. It's like, we've got this personal relationship, y'know?

Dude, don't go to Bishop's. They coast on hipster reputation, and while sometimes they do good work, it's quite hapazard. It may be cheap, but when it comes to hair I've become convinced that a good haircut is worth the bucks.

If you do want a REALLY good haircut and don't mind paying 50 bucks, get an appointment at Blades on NW 21st. I decided to go to them after asking this exact same question on [livejournal.com profile] damnportlanders and getting like twenty replies that all recommended them. A girl called Haley did some EXCELLENT work on my hair, but I'm sure the other stylists are good as well.

Y'know, given that I typically get my hair cut about once a year, $50 is totally manageable. I pay pretty damn close to that for a haircut anyway, after I include a tip, and it looks like Blades is non-tipping.

this is all about how weird I am

Also, I'm glad you posted this! It reminded me to make an appointment for my own haircut in San Francisco on Wednesday. It's at the one salon I've ever been to I liked MORE than Blades; not only did a lovely man named Noel give me the best styles I've ever had last August, it was also pretty much the only haircut I've ever really ENJOYED.

See, I have this... Thing, about haircuts. I really don't like them. I have a sensitive head in terms of pulling/tugging/etc., and I find that almost all stylists are not gentle with the combs/hairwashing/etc. I also am TOTALLY OMG ANAL about being damp; I cannot *stand* to have rivulets of water rolling down my body, and whenever I get my hair washed in a salon they never actually do a very good job of drying to my obsessive standards, so I always end up with a lone drip down my neck into my clothes. Added to that is the fact that I'm not really good at all about communicating what I want done to my hair ("Make it look good and, um... more shorter."), so I'm always stressing about how it will turn out. So haircuts are not The Fun for me! But this dude in the city, omg, he was SO gentle and never tugged and knew exactly what I wanted AND he gave me the most amazing scalp massage during the washing portion of the visit which practically FORCED me to relax (if such a thing is possible).

um... that was a really long comment. Sorry!

oh yeah, I forgot my point - my point was that I liked this haircut so much that I"m willing to get up early on Wednesday (after arriving from london late Tuesday night), go into the city, have my haircut, then rush back to Oakland to get on the plane to Colorado. Because getting my hair cut there is JUST THAT IMPORTANT.

And all that being said, Blades is still my second-favorite salon, and is awesome and worth it entirely. :D

Damn, that must be some salon. I have trust issues for sure when it comes to haircuts, having been burned in the past before, but am otherwise not too super picky about other aspects--though I have a sensitive scalp, too, though most of the hairdressers I've been to have been pretty good about being very gentle when I express discomfort.

Oooh, oooh! If you decide on a buzz cut, can I do it?!
I still fondly recall a Christmas eve spent on the Oregon coast with a bunch of friends when I buzzed the heads of six (entirely willing) people. Mmm, big fun! :-)

Ha! To be honest, having my hair buzzcut by a random dude from the Internet pushes hard on my comfort zone. Am not quite sure why, but it does. But thanks for offering.

I need a haircut too, but my AmeriCorps employed cheap-ass self can't shell out $50.

Oh and the Morlocks demand your attentions!

That is all.

That's right, I haven't been getting my RDA of Morlockishness. Hmm. Will contact you next week. I'm going to attend the Santacon on the 23rd for sure, though, so that should be fun.

I make David get in touch with his inner gay man and cut my hair.

Given that Dave likes cock, I'm not sure his gay man is all that inner to begin with.

True. And he does have an affinity for rearranging the house...
