Friends, panty-fetishists and countrymen,
Four more things have popped up in my radar. First off are two! bands! with! exclamation points! in! their! names! You Say Party! We Say Die! and Thunderbirds Are Now! are playing at the Towne Lounge on Monday, October 9, starting at 10 p.m. It's a cheap show, only $7. I have never heard of these bands before, but they're indie, and their names are incredibly amusing. Anyone game for plunging into this blind with me?
And then there's a book reading at Powell's by Daily Show regular John Hodgman on Tuesday, October 10.
And HOLY SHIT, you guys! Richard Dawkins! At Powell's! October 27 at Powell's on Burnside at 7:30 p.m. I don't necessarily agree with everything he has to say, but I'm a fangirl anyway.
Last but by no means the least are Viva Voce and Silversun Pickups at the Doug Fir Lounge on September 28 at 9 p.m. It's another cheap show--only $12. I really like Silversun Pickups, but I have no idea what Viva Voce sounds like--however, I have one of their CDs winging its way towards me from the library, so I'll find out soon enough. Also, they're with Barsuk records. This doesn't really mean much, normally, but Barsuk artists are usually rock-solid musicians even if they aren't to my tastes; Nada Surf, Death Cab for Cutie, They Might Be Giants, John Vanderslice and Mates of State are probably some of the more recognizable names on that label.
I'm going to have to update my Rocktober calendar. Sweet baby Ganesh wept.
